Beginner's guide - skipasses
Presentation
Skipass
Whether you are a beginner or not, if you want to go downhill skiing without having to go up on foot, you will need to buy a skipass, which will give you access to the "Chamrousse Alpine Park" ski area, including the ski lifts (chairlifts and other lifts) and the slopes.Type of skipasses
There are several possibilities for alpine skipasses in the ski resorts and in Chamrousse :- Depending on the sector:
- access to all the slopes of the resort: "all terrain" pass (including the Sunset Park - Snowpark area and the Montagne de Téo)
- beginner sector: "mini-domain" pass (including the Montagne de Téo play area)
- even for non-skiers: "pedestrian" pass for a gondola ride to the top of the resort (Croix de Chamrousse at 2250m)
- Depending on the duration and the period:
- day type: "1 day" pass (9am-4.30pm), "4 hours" consecutive pass (to be used anytime between 9am and 4.30pm), "end afternoon / sunset / night" skipass (every day from 3.30pm to the closing of the ski area)
- holiday type: "2-day" to "14-day" passes, the most classic being the "6-day" pass for a week's holiday from Saturday to Saturday with ski outings from Sunday to Friday (good to know: access to the Nordic area - cross-country skiing - included free of charge from the "5-day" pass)
There are also specific passes for winter sports activities, such as sledging and snooc at the "Chamrousse Luge Park" for example. It has a specific cash desk for the purchase of Luge Park passes in a small chalet in Chamrousse 1650 (do not go to the classic cash desk to buy your pass). It offers two passes: a "simple ascent" to learn about the joys of snow, but you will quickly get the taste for it and the "1h30" pass is there for that!
And of course, there are also cross-country skipasses which give access to the Nordic area of Chamrousse called the "Nordic Park". In "day", "half-day afternoon" or "6-day" version, there is something for everyone!
Note: no need for a ski pass to access the snowshoeing and multi-activity itineraries, equipped with rented snowshoes or your own equipment, the magnificent trails of the Nordic area are yours!
The skipass takes the form of a hands-free card, also called a "keycard". It is payable (3€) and can be reloaded online or used once (recycling box at the Tourist Offices) and even compatible with other French ski areas.
If you don't know which ski pass to choose, ask the Tourist Office (or possibly the ski school if you are taking lessons) to find out what is best suited to your level and practice.

Prices
The prices of the alpine skipass are broken down according to the age of the user, in addition to the sector and the duration/period: adult (18-65 years), child (6-11 years), youth (12-17 years - including student 18-25 years), senior (66 years and over) and toddler (under 5 years). The "adult" rate is considered as the normal rate and the other rates, accessible only on presentation of a receipt, are special/reduced rates. In Chamrousse, the "toddler" category (under 5 years old) is free.
Please remember to bring your children's identity cards / family record book / student card and other discount cards in order to benefit from the corresponding rates.
Chamrousse's alpine skiing rates are considered good value for money for a medium-sized ski area (90 km and 41 runs for around 40€ a day) and adapted to a family audience: detachable chairlifts or with a conveyor belt to make it easier to get on the lift, special beginner's pass with access to the Montagne de Téo, preferential family rates such as the Pack Tribu, adapted activities and entertainment, "Famille Plus" labelled resort with specific equipment for children in the accommodation and the restaurants ..
Cross-country skiing rates are less expensive than alpine skiing (for around 10€ per day for 40 km and 10 runs) due to the specificity of the Nordic ski area. Indeed, there are no ski lifts as the tracks are relatively "horizontal" with more or less difficult ascents and descents depending on the colour/level of the track (unlike alpine or downhill skiing only where they are "vertical"). All the challenge and pleasure lies there, in the practice of cross-country skiing in skating or alternative (classic) version.
Good to know: if you buy your downhill ski pass on line on the website of the ski lifts "ski.chamrousse.com", you will benefit a discount on the "1 day" and "4h" passes. But also preferential rates on stay type passes with the "Early booking" offers, i.e. early booking for a purchase from 45 to 90 days in advance (on sale online from November).

For all these sports activities, in addition to the purchase of your ski pass, you can also be accompanied by a mountain professional: snowshoeing to discover the fauna and flora, tobogganing or yooning at sunset from the top of the resort and, of course, with an instructor for alpine (skiing, snowboarding, telemarking) or Nordic (cross-country skiing, biathlon) skiing lessons...
