Chamrousse Sledging Park experience - Bob toboggan
Presentation
I tested for you: the Sledging Park (Luge Park)
"There, the adventure begins..."
January 2019, Chamrousse 1650, sport sledging, with friendsElise, Sunday sportswoman, cheese addict and prudent sledger
Arrival in Chamrousse 1650 / Le Recoin / my workplace / the future connected resort Chamrousse 2030 (sorry, professional distortion).
In short, well arrived at the end of the morning to enjoy the snow with friends. The conditions are ideal, bright sun, fresh snow and the sea of clouds remained low, we are in luck. Direction the blue hut of Luge Park to buy the sledge passes. A little queue, there are people and not a lot of space inside the chalet but it goes rather quickly, it must be said that this off-ski activity is a great success.
We enter the wooden cabin, we take some space at 6 and we are a bit noisy, normal with a majority of boys. For the deposit, it's just a credit card imprint, no need to take out my emergency check that I keep preciously for this kind of case.
We collect the pass, then the safety equipment, the helmet, and head to the chairlift next door. The sledge awaits us up there.

There, the adventure begins!
Right away, a change of scenery, it’s very strange to walk through the turnstile with a skier next to it. We try to impose ourselves to go up together, and there we get on the chairlift. A strange feeling of lightness and freedom... and yes, without ski at the end of your feet, that changes. We take the opportunity to admire the landscape, the slopes while knowing that we are not going to ski on them and of course we take a selfie on the chairlift.New question, how do you get off a chairlift on foot? Because without the skis, it does not slip, answer: you run!
In the action, do not forget to go see the chairlift gentleman who gives the sledges and direction the slope. Well, not exactly. First the photo break is essential in front of the great Luge Park sign (which I did ;), and we raise our arms and then sit in a group at the start of the track. It is time to take advantage of the reason for our presence here, the sledge!
Personally, I let the guys go first, I don't wanna die first.
First descent
I go ahead and try the brakes to test the direction changes, I can't even remember how it works. It must be said that sledding for me dates from my childhood. The first turn is passed so everything is fine, there is a good layer of snow, it’s not too hard, not traced but I continue to go cautiously. The others are in full swing, I can't see them anymore! The turns get tight and they follow one another, it's sporty then it slows down a bit and we reach a track, I hope the skiers have seen me, I'm coming.
From there, it's a bit surprising because in addition to not rushing into the other sleds, you must also not get into the skiers when the track becomes a path with a reduced width.
Last corner and the finish is already there, you have to brake. I get up, yay, I survived and the guys are already there, waiting for me. Instinctively, first reflex, we go to each other to euphorically share our experience. Return to the hut with the sled to drop it off on the pile of magnificent orange sledges. And let’s go for another ride!
Second descent
The chairlift climb is welcome, it allows us to continue to share our emotions, our feelings and our desire to get back to it quickly. This time, exiting the chairlift is a detail, no stop at the start of the slope, we go straight. There, enthusiasm mixed with excitement takes precedence over caution or the urge to take pictures, we are in the midst of the experience.
I let go of the brakes on my sled a bit, and instead I stop pulling on the brakes non-stop, I think the track thanks me, for no longer scratching its beautiful white coat.
Suddenly out of the turn... I got off the track and take off the blue Luge Park banner that indicates the turns. Ouch, it hurts... I fell sideways on the edge of the sled as I passed, I'm a little shocked but you learn from your mistakes. The fall is part of the experience. Not surprised that it is forbidden for children under 5 years old and up to 10 years old only in sledding with a parent.
I go back on the slope with the sled a little stunned, I try to recover from my emotions, the guys are already far ahead, nobody saw me fall. I'm going back slowly, I'm fine, I'm not very far from the last section of the descent that joins the ski slope, a slightly steep couloir. Once down, I share my adventure. Nothing serious, my enthusiasm and my desire are still there. We go on. We put the sled down and we go for a third lap.
The descents are linked.
I don't even know how far we're at, no more going off the road… sorry, the track, well for me because the others have been there too, that reassures me. At one point we say to ourselves "oh actually how long have we been enjoying?" because the 2 hours have passed very quickly and we are not alone on the track, there are more and more people! We give the sledges back at the small chalet and turn in the helmet and we recover the famous deposit. And here it is, we are super happy with this new experience at Sledging Park in Chamrousse. For once, there was something for everyone, skiers and non-skiers.
In conclusion, we have anecdotes to tell, great things to share and souvenir photos to post on social networks #lugepark #chamrousse #fun.
But when it's over, it's not over ... it's time to eat out! After the effort, the comfort! It excites me as much as sledding, not for the novelty but because I, the Sunday sportswoman, my passion in life is cheese! Here it is found in all its forms, the traditional raclette, the tartiflette with reblochon, the ravioli gratin with blue cheese, the mountain burger, the fondue ...
Speaking of cheese fondue, next time we have to try night skiing + fondue ;) !
