Chamrousse environment centre

History

At the end of the 1800’s, Chamrousse did not exist yet: no buildings, no sloppes and no ski lifts.
In 1911, the refuge of the French Alpine Club (CAF) was built within only 3 months, one of the most important buildings after the creation of the first "Chamrousse house", the famous Père Tasse refuge.
It has welcomed many hikers for 56 years before its new conversion in 2018.

These last years, the town hall funded the renovation and the former French Alpine Club chalet recovered his youth and a new name: welcome to the Chamrousse Environment centre! Its inauguration will take place on July, 8th 2018 for the Celebration of seasonal migration.

Chamrousse Environment Association

The Environnement centre hosts the Chamrousse Environment Association which coordinates the consultation between all the stakeholders in the territory, on the environmental issues. It supports the projects relating to the environment, as well as the awareness and entertainment projects about the sustainable development and the natural heritage.

Its operation is based on working groups, where numerous structures and local actors are involved:
  • Pastoralism and paths
  • Develpments and works
  • Scientific follow-up (fauna, flora, geology)
  • Communication and events
  • Training

Carried out actions

A few examples of actions already carried out in Chamrousse for the environment management and protection and for the sustainable development:
  • Reopening of habitats in Chamrousse 1650 (Recoin) to allow to find grazing areas that had disappeared, as well as potential nesting areas for Tétras lyre.
