Presentation

The speckled nutcracker knows the forest by heart, normal, it is the one who planted it! As soon as we return to his territory this funny bird warns all its neighbors. We start looking for clues left by his particular lifestyle.
The Speckled Nutcracker is an unusual mountain bird. Except in some forests, such as Chamrousse’s Ash.

The cembro pine, or arolle, and the nutcracker have evolved together for thousands of years, one no longer goes without the other. This symbiosis of animal and plant has shaped the landscape and endowed it with astonishing abilities.
During this half-day hike we will follow the clues left by the bird to get to know his way of life and discover this remarkable tree that is cembro.

The cembraie de Chamrousse, the westernmost of the Alps, is unique in the Grenoble region. It is partly responsible for the Natura 2000 classification of the site. Men have long sought to exploit the arolle for the many qualities of its wood and seeds.

The nutcracker is a mysterious bird, scientists continue to wonder about its ability to memorize. It is a red thread that guides us to better understand natural selection, evolution, ecological niches, ...

During the walk we will also evoke the other animals with whom the nutcracker shares its habitat and try to decode the traces of their presence: squirrels, variable hares, black grouse, woodpeckers, ...
